Year 11 to 12 Transition

All of our students are very much in our thoughts, here at Hagley. However, we are very aware that Year 11, in particular, will be experiencing some very strange and unfamiliar feelings that are caused as a result of anti-climax. I know many of you are very upset by the fact that you will not be able to take your GCSE exams and that your study seems to have come to a very abrupt halt. Many of you will be quite angry that you cannot prove your ability and hard work on a national level.

However, we are trying to see this as an opportunity not a disadvantage. Therefore, we are looking to support you move forward into the next phase of your learning. I sincerely hope that many of you will come back to Hagley and enjoy the opportunities our excellent sixth form has to offer. The teaching of A Level at Hagley is highly personalised and effective at ensuring students secure excellent outcomes. Year on year we secure many of the best results for students locally and this means that students go on to some of the most prestigious courses and apprenticeships at universities and companies across the country.

If you are coming back to Hagley, we want you to be as prepared as possible. We are very concerned that some year 11 students could go 20 weeks without completing any study and this could be a disadvantage in the long term. Therefore, the staff at Hagley have compiled some bespoke transition programmes that will enable you to understand what A Level study within a subject will be like. In addition, it will allow you to prepare the appropriate foundations to begin studying effectively in September 2020.

As a school, we would like you to complete three transition programmes/bridging tasks in your chosen A Levels and one more that may be of interest. (4 in total)

The programmes are set out to be completed in your own time but over approximately 10 weeks with roughly 4 hours of study per week for each programme.

This would mean you would be completing about 16 hours of work every week, in order to prepare effectively for Year 12 in September 2020.

We look forward to seeing you with all your effective preparation In September 2020.
