Relationships and Sex Education

Relationships, Sex and Health Education became statutory in all secondary schools in England in 2020. An important part of RSE is working in partnership with parents and carers who are the first teachers of their children. The purpose of RSE to give pupils knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to live happy and fulfilling lives.

As a Catholic school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The school uses a platform called ‘Life to the Full’, created by Ten Ten Resources, which is delivered as part of the Character and Culture programme on Tuesday mornings. This provision meets the requirements of both the Catholic Education Service and Department for Education.

A key principle of the Ten Ten programme is that “Our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God.” The RSE programme is broken down into three themes:

1) Created and Loved by God covers ‘Me, My Body, My Health’, ‘Emotional well-being’ and ‘Life cycles’
2) Created to Love Others covers ‘Personal Relationships’ and ‘Keeping Safe’
3) Created to Live in Community covers ‘Living in the Wider World’

The Ten Ten programme comprises a short film, which delivers age-appropriate teaching content on matters such as puberty, sex, body image, identity, relationships, our online lives and how we find our place in the wider world, whilst at the same time providing a balanced view of different perspectives. Within each film, there is room for discussion within a safe environment, facilitated by staff who have received CPD and ongoing support in managing discussions in a respectful way.

Ten Ten have created an Online Parent Portal, which you can access to help keep you informed about what is being taught in school, and it also gives you the opportunity to engage your child(ren) in discussion, activity and prayer.

To access the Online Parent Portal, please visit: https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/parent-portal/ .

The log-on details can be accessed by contacting reception or through the letter sent out to parents and carers.
