Our Faith
Our Mission Statement is supported by our school values ('Pupil Profile'), which proposes the qualities we wish to develop in our pupils. These qualities are simple, yet challenging, and seek to enable every member of our community to take the message of the Gospels to heart and apply it to their day-to-day lives. We challenge our pupils to be:
The Catholic Life of the school lies at the heart of our education. We aim to nurture the holistic development of all our pupils through provision of a thriving chaplaincy, which is led by Fr Philip Grifin, our school chaplain and Parish Priest at Our Lady and All Saints, Stourbridge.
Each week there is an opportunity for every pupil to attend School Mass on Tuesday morning. In addition to our weekly celebration, there are Masses provided on all Holy Days of Obligation that fall within term time. All parents are welcome to attend any of these Masses; please notify the school reception by 15:35 on the preceding day, if you wish to attend.
Prayer and worship are central to our purpose as a Catholic School and our pupils are encouraged to lead liturgies and elements of assemblies during the year. Pupils are regularly involved in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the Catholic Life of the School.
There are numerous opportunities for pupils to develop their faith outside of the classroom, including by undertaking pilgrimage to European destinations and residential retreats within England, engaging in charity work and by participating in social outreach work.
We consider that helping those less fortunate than ourselves is one way of encouraging our pupils to care and be concerned for others. A variety of events are organised e.g. The Penny Race and Hunger Lunches in order to provide practical ways to respond to the needs of others.
The academic study of religion is undertaken within the following courses:
* Edexcel's Advanced GCE: in Philosophy of Religion, Ethics & New Testament
* Edexcel's Level 3 Extended Project Qualification
* AQA's GCSE Religious Studies (B): Catholic Christianity, Judaism & Themes.
To date, no parents have exercised their right to withdraw their children from the RE programme. However, if any parent is unhappy with the provision they should contact the Principal.
