The Sixth Form Retreat to Soli at Alton Castle

The Sixth Form residential retreat to Soli at Alton is truly one of the high points of any Hagley Sixth Former’s experience.

Alton Castle is the Archdiocese of Birmingham’s retreat centre for young people in Staffordshire.  The Sixth Form Retreat is open to all members of Year 12.  There is nothing like getting away from school but a Sixth Form retreat is more than an activity weekend or a school holiday trip.  It’s a chance to step out of the treadmill of daily life and gain a few moments for real spiritual reflection and recreation.  The retreat is not run by teachers but by the Soli staff who are gap year students, very sensitive to young people’s needs and who know how to help you to get to know needs and who know how to help you to get to know each other and also yourself.

John Paul II Award

The Pope John Paul II Award enables you to take an active part in the local community, British Society and the life of your Church.  It enables young adults to become more aware of the role of the Catholic Church in the world.

The Award is committed to helping you enhance your spiritual, physical, emotional and social development through participation in school, parish and community activities that a participant will gain from taking part in the Award, participation will help you to demonstrate your ability to commit to a task and goal, providing excellent evidence to incorporate into your UCAS Personal Statement.

The Award is non-competitive, flexible and voluntary and requires an ongoing commitment.  Awards are earned by taking part in parish and social activities – 1 hour per week over 20 weeks.  You have a maximum of sixteen months to complete the requirements of the Award.

The Award was created to commemorate the late Pope John Paul II who was so committed to young people and who had such belief and confidence in them.  What better way to be a positive role model for other young people in society than contribute to this community work!
