Being ready to learn

Engagement with learning is always the primary aim for all lessons at Hagley Catholic High School. For the vast majority of students, a gentle reminder of the required standards is all that is needed. Although there are occasions when it is necessary for a student to be removed from a lesson, it is understood that every minute a student is out of a lesson is one where they are not learning and will therefore have a negative impact on their educational opportunities.

As a school, our ambition is to have a positive and flexible approach to classroom behaviour management, where at the same time still setting a high standard and wherever possible our aim is to keep all students in their lessons.

Students will be held responsible for their behaviour, but will be supported by staff who will firstly inform them about the required expectations; will then remind them of these expectations; and will then eventually lead onto a process of managing behaviours that may be deemed to impact on the learning of students within the classroom setting that they are based. Restorative conversations and learning from mistakes made are key to all our behaviour systems.

The diagram below summarises the C system used by teachers in a classroom setting to support with effective behaviour management.
