Support And Facilities

As a Sixth Former, you will have access to facilities and support available exclusively to the Sixth Form.

The Sixth Form Study Centre

Sixth Formers do not just need ‘teaching time’ - they also need ‘learning time.’  You will not be taught all the time in the Sixth Form; you will have some time, about four hours per week, set aside for you to carry out the research you require for your Sixth Form studies. For the first time in your life you will have to structure periods of time for yourself and plan out your scheme of work. If you can cope with this, you will make a great success of your Sixth Form career. We try to make conditions as ideal as possible for you, by providing teacher supervision of private study time. We believe that one of the reasons our Sixth Formers do so well when they go on to university is that they have learned how to manage their own time during private study at school.

The Common Room

As a Sixth Former you will have a ‘home’, the Sixth Form Common Room. Over the last few years this has been renovated to make it as comfortable as possible for you. It’s now a pleasant facility where you can make the most of your free time. You will find that socialising, talking and getting to know new friends in the years above and below you is an essential part of Sixth Form life.

The Learning Resource Centre

The LRC at Hagley is a valuable facility for your learning time in the Sixth Form. The LRC staff are committed to you and your studies; they are keen that you perform to the best of your ability, so that you are successful at school. To do this they hold over 9000 resources - including fiction, non-fiction and reference books, audiotapes, DVDs and journals.

Careers Education and Guidance

During the course of Year 12, Mrs Elliott will use the tutorial time on Tuesday mornings to make sure that all of the year group has an understanding of the options available to them in higher education and the system of application and selection.

In order to help Year 12 students to increase their awareness of higher education, the whole year group visits Worcester University each year to take part in a Higher Education Fair. As a year group we also attend the Birmingham University Open Day. In addition, a three-day Higher Education Conference is run in school in June.

We also run a trip to an Oxford college open day in May each year, usually on a Saturday. A large amount of extra, personalised help is available to those who are interested in applying to Oxford or Cambridge, including practice interviews.
