Science  Departmental Overview

The department has a fantastic mix of experience, knowledge and dynamism, consisting of the following staff:

  • Mr. Patchett- Head of Department. Teacher of Physics across all Key Stages and teacher of Science at Key Stage 3 
  • Miss Whild- Assistant Head of Science with Key Stage and subject responsibilities. Teacher of Biology across all Key Stages and Teacher of Applied Science at A level, and Teacher of Science at Key Stage 3.
  • Mr Creevy- Teaching and Learning responsibilities within the Chemistry/Science Department. Teacher of Chemistry across all Key Stages, and Teacher of Science at Key Stage 3.
  • Mrs Hopkins- Teaching and Learning responsibilities within the Biology Department. Teacher of Biology across all Key Stages, and Science Teacher at Key Stage 3.
  • Mrs Caple- Teaching and Learning responsibilities within the Chemistry Department. Teacher of Chemistry across all Key Stages, and Science Teacher at Key Stage 3.
  • Mrs Lloyd (on Maternity Leave until December 2017). Teaching and Learning responsibilities within the Applied Science Department. Teacher of Applied Science/Biology at A level and Biology at KS4, and Science Teacher at Key Stage 3.
  • Mr Brown- Teacher of Physics across all Key Stages. Teacher of Applied Science at A-level.  Senior Leadership responsibilities.
  • Mr Frobisher- Teacher of Chemistry across all Key Stages.  Senior Leadership responsibilities.
  • Mr Brown- Teacher of Physics across all Key Stages. Teacher of Applied Science at A-level.  Senior Leadership responsibilities.
  • Mr Hedditch- Teacher of Key Stage 3 and 4 Science. Teacher of Applied Science at A-level.
  • Miss Hegarty- Teacher of Biology across all Key Stages and Teacher of Science across Key Stage 3.
  • Mrs Fairclough- Teacher of Chemistry across all Key Stages and Applied Science at A-level.  Teacher of Science at Key Stage 3.
  • Mr Coram- Temporary Teacher of Biology at Key Stage 4 and Teacher of Science across Key Stage 3.
  • Mrs Anderson- Senior Lab TechnicianMrs Burfoot- Lab Technician.
In Science, the staff are passionate about science and committed (through relevant and engaging lessons) in their desire to instil a sense of interest and intrigue into all pupils. Through the experience of practical work, students learn many different skill that can be valuable not only for academic success but also useful beyond the classroom.  The staff have many years of teaching the AQA specifications at GCSE (and follow either the Combined Science –Trilogy course or the Separate Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). AQA is the specification also studied in the Post 16 curriculum.
