This page outlines the topics taught in each term through Key Stage 3 (years 7 to 9), along with an overview of how assessments will take place.

 

Year 7

Autumn Term

Use the laws of arithmetic with whole numbers and decimals.

Know and use the order of operations.

Work with expressions.

Use basic angle rules to solve problems.

Explore average using a data project.

Calculate powers, roots, factors and multiples.

Classify shape and use measurement.

Look at equations.

Experiment and calculate chance.

Find percentages.

Compare data distributions and draw graphs.

Work with proportion.

Explore patterns and sequences.

Calculate volumes of different solids.

 

Year 8

Autumn Term

Summer Term

Work with geometry.

Use rounding and approximations.

Work with more complex algebra.

Calculate percentages.

 

Construct and transform shape.

Expand and factorise expressions.

Calculate perimeter, area and volume.

Data handling work

Work with ratio.

Construct and solve equations.

Explore sequences.

Recognise and construct different data graphs.

Calculate Probabilities.

Work with indices.

Participate in the rose window project.

 

 Year 9

Autumn Term

Spring Term

Summer Term

Solve geometric problems with justified reasons.

Continue with more sophisticated expressions.

Calculate further measures.

Construct data handling distributions and compare.

Use indices laws.

Explore more complex equations.

Perform repeated transformations.

Calculate repeated percentage change.

Find lengths and/or angles within triangles.

Model real life situations as a diagrammatic representation.

Use and derive formula.

 

During the year, Key Stage 3 pupils will be assessed each half term with an in class test based on the work covered during the half term.

At the end of the year, pupils will be assessed by a formal examination. Plus there is also a teacher assessment based on the level shown throughout the year.
