Food Technology is a subject which allows pupils to apply knowledge and understanding of the working characteristics of food processing techniques to design and make a food product. 

YEAR 10:

All pupils will:

  • Complete a mini Cold Dessert, Special Diet Project and a Healthy Meals Project.
  • Consider Food Product Design, Development and Market Influences by looking at the stages of food product development and labelling information, legislation and codes of practice.
  • Complete a range of practical investigations and food experimental work.
  • Look at Food processes and Product Manufacture to include the effect of combining different ingredients and the interaction of foods during preparation and cooking.  Look at the importance of structure, shape, volume of mixtures.  Consider the selection and use of appropriate pieces of electrical equipment.  Look at the beneficial and detrimental effects of microorganisms on food.
  • Throughout the year there will be opportunities for extensive practical skills training.
  • Sit a Year 10 mock exam paper.
  • Complete a Year 10 Food Technology Enterprise Day

In the summer term pupils will start the major design and make controlled assessment.

 

YEAR 11:

Pupils will Continue to work on the controlled assessment until February Half Term. From March onwards they will work towards the final written paper.

 

Controlled Assessment: 

Worth 60% of the total marks.  Controlled assessment consists of a project which addresses all the assessment objectives in an integrated way. The evidence required for the project consists of a food product prototype(s) and a concise design folder with appropriate ICT evidence. The marks are awarded 40% for the making and 20% for the designing. The portfolio provides opportunities for research and investigation.
